The RESS graduate program is designed to allow working professionals to apply their learning immediately to their field. Program courses provide you with technical depth in areas related to renewable energy and sustainability management. You also gain a comprehensive understanding of energy economics, applications of technology in society, and the project development process.
The program is structured with stackable credentials:
Stand-along course --> Certificate --> Master’s degree
Students can take a single course, graduate certificate (12 credits), or Master’s degree (33 credits) based on their interest and commitment level. The non-credit or certificate credits earned can be directly applied towards the Master’s degree if desired.
Completed Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
No required prerequisites for courses
For the Solar Energy courses, college-level preparation in math and sciences is highly recommended
Application for Certificates and single-courses (non-degree) can be done any time year-round and does not require review.
Application for the Master’s program requires CV, Personal statement, 3 recommendations, and transcripts.
Deadlines: April 20 (to start in Summer), July 20 (to start in Fall), December 20 (to start in Spring)
The courses are instructor-led, interactive, provide video and reading materials at no extra cost, and allow access to the Penn State’s online library and resources. Students are not required to be present online live at any specific time, but rather work on a weekly cycle to cover the lesson material, submit assignments, and receive feedback. Class size: 20-25.
